BMLA Field Lacrosse Update

To Our Bomber Family,

We trust that this email finds all of you on the right side of the pandemic with a hope-filled summer within sight.

The entire Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association team would like to thank the membership group for their unwavering patience and understanding throughout this swirling year of uncertainty as we persevered and continued to navigate the Covid landscape. No one would or could have anticipated in March 2020 that a full year would pass before we could get back to the sport we all love!

With our traditional off-season box lacrosse clinics underway, I want to provide you with an update on our 2021 Field Lacrosse program.

With the OMFLL's postponement of the traditional spring field lacrosse season, we are pleased to announce that BMLA will be offering a fun and competitive 'in-house' field lacrosse program for all skill levels. If your child has never experienced the unique game of field lacrosse, this is the perfect opportunity to get outside and play.  If your child has played field lacrosse before this is a wonderful chance for them to compete and hone the specific skills needed for this fast-paced game. We hope to be able to open our season in early May, and we are optimistic that we will be able to play games against teams from centers outside our zone once Provincial guidelines allow for it. We are still working on the final details and will provide more information as we get closer to that date. Please watch our website, social media channels and your email over the coming weeks to keep up to date on the latest BMLA news.

Unfortunately, because we cannot predict what impact Provincial & OLA guidelines will have on future programming, we ask for flexibility, cooperation, and understanding as we venture through the spring and summer months together. Have faith and trust, as our primary goal is to provide safe and sustainable programming, whatever it may look like, for our most beloved stakeholders, our young lacrosse players.

Yours in lacrosse,

Melanie Henderson

President, on behalf of the BMLA Board

2021 Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association Registration Update

Dear Bomber Families;

In a normal year, lacrosse registration would be well underway by now and we would be in the midst of our off-season training clinics.  With the current uncertainty of when our players will be able to gather together again, our board has decided to delay all registration activities until after the current Stay-at-home order for our region is lifted.

We are committed to having a plan in place for the return of lacrosse in 2021 and have formed a Return to Play committee focused on ensuring we can hit the floor/field running.  Our goal is to get sticks into hands as soon as local conditions permit!  The committee is staying in close contact with the Ontario Lacrosse Association, our facility partners, and local authorities to ensure a safe and fun path towards the return of lacrosse.

Like you, the volunteers on our Board are anxious for lacrosse to return and we can't wait to see all of you on the field and floor again soon.

Stay well and stay home.

Yours in lacrosse,

Melanie Henderson

President

Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association

    BECOME A LACROSSE REFEREE!

Becoming a lacrosse referee is one of the smartest decisions a young person can make. It will develop transferable life skills such as, decision making, working under pressure & conflict resolution.

Becoming a lacrosse referee will improve your understanding of the game and is a great way for major bantam and midget aged players to improve their skills on the floor.

It is also a rewarding way to contribute to the growth of the sport and earn some cash along the way ($25-$42 a game!).
It is the goal of the BMLA to grow and establish a core of Referees that are known for their excellent officiating. So, if you think you have what it takes and are 14 years of age or older click here for more information regarding rates, clinics, resources and more

If you have any other questions please email Carson Dunec at ric@barrieminorlacrosse.com

Anthony was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the new Barrie Bombers association in 2013 and his reputation in the lacrosse community added instant credibility to the Bombers organization.  Anthony's leadership and hard work were the essential ingredients in the success that Barrie Minor Lacrosse has experienced over the past few years.  His courage and determination in the face of illness were an absolute inspiration to all of us who had the pleasure to work with him and to the players he mentored.
