Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association
Official Statement re: 2020 Spring Field Lacrosse Season

Dear Bomber Field Players & Parents;

The past several weeks have been among the most difficult, confusing, and stressful times that Canadians - indeed people around the world - have faced in modern times.  Families, governments, businesses, and non-profit organizations like the Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association (BMLA) are all struggling to adapt to a fluid situation that seems to change daily.  Our thoughts are with everyone in our community who has been negatively affected by COVID-19 and the impact (financial, social, and mental) of social distancing.

On March 31st, the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) announced that the 2020 Spring Field Lacrosse season would be postponed until later in the year.  While the COVID-19 outbreak makes it impossible for a start date to be reliably predicted, both the OLA and Ontario Minor Field Lacrosse League (OMFLL) are taking all steps possible to see that the season still happens.

Unfortunately, the OMFLL also confirmed that the new Spring U-19 division has been cancelled for this year.  We will be reaching out to all players registered for our U-19 team in the coming days regarding refunds.  Thank you for the support you showed for our first ever attempt at a spring league for this age group.  Please keep an eye out for details around U19 options in the fall season.

In haste to provide you with the most up-to-date information possible, our initial communication about these decisions mistakenly referred to the spring season being cancelled.  This was incorrect did not accurately reflect the OLA’s update on the season.  I would like to apologize for this confusion.

To the rest of our field lacrosse families, I ask that you be patient as the OLA and OMFLL work together to determine how the season will proceed.  We do understand that some players may not be available for a season outside of the traditional April/May schedule and will need to withdraw from their team.  If this applies to your child, information will be posted very soon on the BMLA website and Facebook pages with a detailed emergency refund policy and statement.

As always, we will do our best to respond to messages, comments, and calls as quickly as possible for a volunteer organization.  Please understand that our organization is run completely by volunteers whose lives have also been impacted by this crisis and that this may mean that replies can’t happen as fast as they normally might.

Thank you again for your support of Canada’s Summer Sport.  On behalf of the BMLA Board of Directors, I want to wish you and your families all the best during these difficult times.
